Terms and Conditions

  1. The Toy Library is open to all residents of Wokingham District including childcare and play providers and children’s groups. Signatories must be 18 or over. Residents from other areas are welcome to join at our discretion.

2 forms of identification will be needed before joining the library (including 1 with a current address) e.g. driving licence, bank statement with bank card, current within the last 3 months.

  2. Toy Library membership is valid for one year. Current membership charges are displayed in the library and further information is available here
  3. Toys and equipment are available for loan for a period of 4 weeks, with the exception of party loans which are for 1 week. Current rental charges are displayed in the library.
  4. Library members are responsible for all items borrowed from the library. Items must be returned in the same condition they were borrowed. They must be clean and in a good state of repair. Where an item is returned broken or incomplete, the Toy Library reserves the right to make a charge. Items must be returned to the Toy Library during opening hours. Members are asked not to return toys to The Ambleside Centre or outside the Toy Library when either are closed. The Toy Library insurance does not cover the breakage, non return, loss or theft of an item once removed from the Toy Library under loan by a member.
  5. Batteries: where included, the library will make sure the batteries are working but cannot guarantee they will last the 4 week loan period.
  6. Fines will be charged for overdue items. The current rate of fines is displayed in the library. Renewal of items is at the discretion of the librarian and depends on demand for the item in question. When an item is renewed, the rental charge must be paid again for the further loan.
  7. Fees, fines and rental charges will contribute to maintaining the library but will not be sufficient to maintain the service on their own. Failure to pay for fines, fees and replacement charges will result in suspension of membership and may lead to prosecution.
  8. Members of the Toy Library are eligible to use the on-site Scrapstore which provides scrap materials for creative play. Charges are displayed in the library.
  9. All information held by the library is protected under the Data Protection Act 2001.
  10. Members of the library will be expected to abide by the Terms and  Conditions and will be reminded of these as necessary.
  11. Safety: responsibility will not be accepted for any loss, injury or damage caused by or arising from any misuse or any toys or equipment borrowed from the Toy Library.
  12. Supervision: parents and carers are responsible for their children whilst at the Toy Library.
  13. The Lend and Play Toy Library is a registered charity, managed by a voluntary management committee. We work in partnership with Wokingham Borough Council and the service is operated by WBC staff under a Service Level Agreement
